WASHINGTON — Alliance Defending Freedom attorneys who are currently litigating multiple lawsuits against Planned Parenthood for alleged fraud and misuse of taxpayer Medicaid dollars are pointing out that President Obama’s claim that the abortion giant provides mammograms is false. Obama made the claim in Tuesday’s presidential debate and elsewhere.

Operating mammogram machines without a license is a violation of federal law, and in response to an Alliance Defending Freedom request, the Department of Health and Human Services verified that Planned Parenthood has no such licenses.

“No one should prop up an abortion business by claiming it is helping women in ways that it does not,” said Senior Counsel Casey Mattox. “If Planned Parenthood is operating mammogram machines without a license, it is violating federal law. The president's own administration has confirmed that Planned Parenthood has no such licenses. He should correct the record and explain that Planned Parenthood does not offer mammograms so that he cannot be accused of making allegations which, if true, would mean Planned Parenthood is breaking the law.”

Alliance Defending Freedom is representing two former Planned Parenthood clinic managers in lawsuits in Texas and Iowa that allege Medicaid overbilling and fraud. Planned Parenthood is also currently under investigation by Congress.
