Kan., Okla. lawmakers move bills that keep foster kids first

Friday, May 4, 2018
The following quote may be attributed to Alliance Defending Freedom Legal Counsel Kellie Fiedorek regarding Kansas and Oklahoma legislatures’ passage of legislation protecting faith-based adoption and foster care providers. Both bills ensure that valuable providers remain available to serve children in the foster care system without fear of government discrimination:

“Every single child deserves the chance to be raised in a loving family. Faith-based child welfare providers are vital participants and are often the most effective at placing vulnerable and special needs children. No provider should be prevented from serving children and families because the government doesn’t like their religious beliefs. When states respect a diversity of opinions and providers, everyone—including birth parents, families, and especially children—will benefit. Kansas and Oklahoma lawmakers should be applauded for prioritizing the needs of foster children in their states. We hope Gov. Colyer and Gov. Fallin will quickly sign these important bills and join the growing number of states working to keep kids first.”
