NEW YORK — Renowned medical experts and researchers will discuss groundbreaking findings on the most important factors in saving the lives of mothers in childbirth at a policy briefing and press conference Wednesday. Alliance Defending Freedom is co-sponsoring the event in connection with the Commission on the Status of Women annual meeting at the United Nations, which runs through March 15.

“Education reduces maternity mortality. Every woman should have access to all the necessary information to protect her and her baby’s health and well-being,” said Alliance Defending Freedom Legal Counsel Neydy Casillas. “Policies that ensure women will have access to this information are the most effective way to reduce maternal mortality. Through education, lives will be saved. But with every abortion, mortality increases, and an act of violence is inflicted on an innocent child.”

A major scientific study in Chile found that the most important factor in reducing maternal mortality is the educational level of women. Professor Elard Koch, M.Sc., a prominent molecular epidemiologist and researcher at the University of Chile, is lead author of the study and will discuss his findings at the briefing.

The briefing, “Policy-Making to Reduce Maternal Mortality: A Holistic Approach to Maternal Care,” will address abortion, infant mortality, and the best practices for managing high-risk pregnancies. It will also repudiate the fallacy perpetrated by pro-abortion activists that abortion is necessary to save women’s lives. Alliance Defending Freedom is co-sponsoring the event with Personhood USA, Vifac and Construye, and Mujer para la Mujer.
