CSU–Los Angeles backs down, will allow conservative speaker

Thursday, Feb 25, 2016
The following quote may be attributed to Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel David Hacker regarding Thursday’s announcement by California State University, Los Angeles, President William Covino that he will allow a Young Americans for Freedom speaking event featuring conservative political commentator Ben Shapiro to proceed as originally planned instead of cancelling it as he had announced Monday:

“Silencing the speech of students on a public university campus—the very marketplace of ideas—because of their views is not only illogical, it’s unconstitutional. The university has made the right decision in allowing the Young Americans for Freedom event to proceed as planned and as we requested, without censorship and without unconstitutional fees.”

Alliance Defending Freedom is an alliance-building, non-profit legal organization that advocates for the right of people to freely live out their faith.
