Court says bus system can ban ad aimed at Indiana women in need

The following quote may be attributed to Alliance Defending Freedom Legal Counsel Jonathan Scruggs regarding a federal court’s decision Tuesday in Women’s Health Link v. Fort Wayne Public Transportation Corp. that allows the Indiana city’s bus system to refuse to display in its buses an ad from Women’s Health Link, a life-affirming health care referral service for women in need:

“The First Amendment protects freedom of speech for all people, regardless of their political or religious beliefs. City officials can’t run nearly identical ads from other non-profit groups, such as the United Way, and then single out Women’s Health Link for censorship. Government has a responsibility to ensure that all organizations benefit from community advertising. For that reason, we will consult with our client regarding appeal.”

Alliance Defending Freedom is an alliance-building, non-profit legal organization that advocates for the right of people to freely live out their faith.
