Comment on 5th Circuit decision allowing Texas to stop funding Planned Parenthood

Wednesday, Aug 22, 2012
The following quote may be attributed to Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel Steven H. Aden regarding Tuesday’s decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit to allow Texas to discontinue funding for Planned Parenthood as part of the Texas Women’s Health Program:

“Taxpayers should not be forced to pay for abortions or abortion advocacy. The court’s decision against the position of Planned Parenthood and the Obama administration again demonstrates that abortionists and their political allies are bluffing when they say that states cannot stop taxpayer funding from being used to subsidize abortions, whether directly or indirectly. The court has done the right thing in upholding the right of Texas to exclude this kind of funding from the program, especially for organizations like Planned Parenthood, which is currently under investigation by Congress for fraud.”

Alliance Defending Freedom is not involved in the case, Planned Parenthood Association of Hidalgo County v. Suehs, but is representing former Planned Parenthood clinic directors in Johnson v. Planned Parenthood of Houston and Southeast Texas and Thayer v. Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, two lawsuits that allege Planned Parenthood engaged in millions of dollars of Medicaid fraud.
