Colo. House committee temporarily withdraws bill that eliminates protections for unborn children

Wednesday, Apr 9, 2014
The following quote may be attributed to Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel Michael J. Norton regarding the Colorado House Judiciary Committee’s decision Tuesday to temporarily withdraw a bill that eliminates protections for unborn children after some committee members cited serious concerns following Norton’s testimony on the bill, HB 14-1324:

“This misleading bill might be better called ‘Colorado’s Kermit Gosnell Protection Act of 2014.’ If passed, Colorado would be the only state in the country that does not, at the very least, permit a wrongful death action to be brought on behalf of a child who is injured in the womb, born, and then dies. Rather than providing more protection and remedies for pregnant women and their children, this bill actually provides less protection and protects wrongdoing by abortionists, medical professionals, and drunk drivers. The committee was right to table the bill because it would be bad law and a step backward for Colorado.”
