SAN FRANCISCO — Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel Steven H. Aden will be available for media interviews following his oral argument at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit Wednesday in defense of an Arizona law that seeks to end the use of taxpayer funds for abortion.

The hearing concerns a lawsuit filed by Planned Parenthood against H.B. 2800, the “Whole Woman’s Healthcare Funding Prioritization Act,” which prohibits taxpayer dollars from funding abortions and prioritizes family planning funds to health care entities that best provide comprehensive health care to women.

Aden, whom Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne appointed as a special assistant attorney general to assist the state in defending the law, will argue on behalf of the state. Aden is working together with Arizona Solicitor General Robert Ellman.

A federal district judge temporarily suspended the law in October of last year and then ruled in favor of Planned Parenthood in February. The state of Arizona then appealed that decision to the 9th Circuit.

Alliance Defending Freedom is an alliance-building, non-profit legal organization that advocates for the right of people to freely live out their faith.
