ADF: Senate confirms extreme activist as new HHS secretary

Thursday, Mar 18, 2021

The following quote may be attributed to Alliance Defending Freedom General Counsel Kristen Waggoner regarding the U.S. Senate’s confirmation Thursday of Xavier Becerra as secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services:

“The Senate has just narrowly confirmed an extremist, Xavier Becerra, to serve as secretary of Health and Human Services. As I’ve stated in the past, Mr. Becerra holds little regard for the rights of conscience or protecting vulnerable human life. During his tenure as California’s attorney general, he aggressively led the charge to silence and prosecute pro-life advocates, while cheerleading the so-called Equality Act—legislation that ignores science and biological reality, harms women and girls, and attempts to deny Americans their fundamental freedoms. From his new role, we expect Mr. Becerra will continue his attack on the civil liberties of those with whom he disagrees. However, his confirmation will not stop ADF from our steadfast commitment to advocate for religious liberty, free speech, the protection of life, and parental rights, even if it means meeting him once again at the U.S. Supreme Court.”

Alliance Defending Freedom is an alliance-building, non-profit legal organization committed to protecting religious freedom, free speech, parental rights, and the sanctity of life.
