Trump State Dept. implements protections for life in global health assistance

Tuesday, May 16, 2017
The following quote may be attributed to Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel Kevin Theriot regarding Monday’s implementation by the U.S. State Department of the “Protecting Life in Global Health Assistance” policy, which maintains global health assistance to families in need while also ensuring that taxpayer money will no longer subsidize abortions overseas:

“American taxpayers should never be forced to fund abortion. The State Department’s decision to ensure Americans’ hard-earned federal tax dollars will no longer subsidize abortion overseas, particularly in light of the International Planned Parenthood Federation’s documented abuse of taxpayer money, is commonsense. We commend President Trump and his administration for doing the right and logical thing by redirecting this valuable funding to support health programs around the world that are providing low-cost healthcare options for women and their families instead of the scandal-ridden abortion industry.”

President Trump issued an executive order on Jan. 23 that led to the policy implemented Monday—an expanded version of President Ronald Reagan’s “Mexico City Policy.”
