KS Legislature passes bill to protect kids from harmful, risky procedures
The following quote may be attributed to Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel Matt Sharp, director of the ADF Center for Public Policy, regarding the Kansas Legislature’s passage Friday of SB 63, a law that protects children from the administration of life-altering sex-related surgeries, puberty blockers, and cross-sex hormones and affirms the biological reality of sex as male and female:
“There are only two sexes—male and female—and denying this biological truth hurts real people. Children who experience discomfort with their sex need the loving embrace of family, not risky drugs and life-altering procedures that send them down a one-way path of lifetime medicalization. In no world should children be subjected to harmful, often irreversible drugs and surgeries that block healthy puberty, alter hormonal balances, and remove healthy organs and body parts. Studies continue to show that most minors wrestling with gender dysphoria who receive the embrace of family and safe and effective counseling grow into comfort with their bodies by adulthood. ADF commends the Kansas Legislature for taking it up so quickly. We also commend the important work of Kansas Family Voice and Do No Harm on this effort. We hope that Gov. Laura Kelly joins the growing movement of 26 other states by enacting this critical bill to prioritize protecting kids from a radical agenda that has devasted countless lives around the world.”
