House honors selfless work of pregnancy centers for women, their babies

Wednesday, Mar 14, 2018

The following quote may be attributed to Alliance Defending Freedom Legal Counsel Denise Harle regarding the U.S. House of Representatives’ special order that will take place Wednesday after the final vote series to honor the selfless work of pro-life pregnancy centers on behalf of women and their babies:

“Pro-life pregnancy centers provide, at no charge, the practical resources, information, and emotional support women need to care for themselves and their families, and to welcome a new life into their family and the community. ADF commends Reps. Harris and LaMalfa for hosting a special order recognizing the work of these centers to empower women during their pregnancies. ADF will be arguing before the Supreme Court on March 20 to defend the freedom these centers have under the U.S. Constitution to act consistently with that mission and not be singled out by the government and forced to provide free advertising for the abortion industry. No one should be forced to do that—least of all pro-life organizations.”

The following quote may be attributed to National Institute of Family and Life Advocates President Thomas Glessner: (NIFLA v. Becerra is the case that the Supreme Court will hear on March 20.)

“The government is using the walls of pro-life pregnancy centers as billboards to advertise for abortions. This is like the government forcing Alcoholics Anonymous to post a sign that advertises for California wine tours. California’s law forces pro-life pregnancy centers to contradict their pro-life message and undermine their purpose. We thank Reps. Harris and LaMalfa for valuing our mission and honoring our centers’ work to help and empower women who need the services our centers offer.”

The following quote may be attributed to Rep. Andy Harris, R-Md., co-host of the House special order recognizing pro-life pregnancy centers:

“Our nation’s pregnancy centers provide critical support and resources for pregnant women and their families both before and long after their babies are born. That’s why Rep. LaMalfa and I chose to recognize pregnancy centers across the country through this special order, and why we were honored to lead the effort to file an amicus brief with the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of 129 members of the House in support of NIFLA. Forcing pregnancy centers to subvert their own values is an attack on our constitutionally protected freedoms. We hope the Supreme Court will agree.”
