ADF attorneys available for comment Tuesday at California Supreme Court regarding Lewis v. Alfaro

SAN FRANCISCO — Attorneys with the Alliance Defense Fund will be available to the media at the California Supreme Court Tuesday to comment on oral arguments in the case of Lewis v. Alfaro.

ADF Chief Counsel Benjamin Bull will be in San Francisco at the courthouse, as will ADF Senior Counsel Jordan Lorence and ADF Senior Counsel Glen Lavy.

According to Chief Counsel Benjamin Bull, Lewis v. Alfaro, the original action filed by ADF in the California Supreme Court, is a critical case for the rule of law in California and the nation.

"The San Francisco mayor cannot unilaterally declare a ‘constitutional right’ in anticipation of a judicial ruling which has not occurred and then complain that such a ‘right’ should not be taken away because a court might create it," said Bull. "The city’s reasoning not only puts the cart before the horse, it sacrifices logic on the altar of wishful thinking."

The situation in California highlights the need for the Federal Marriage Amendment, Bull explained. "Failure to pass the Federal Marriage Amendment will result in more chaos and confusion over marriage. If people want to preserve the very institution—marriage—that forms the cornerstone upon which our society rests, they should support FMA with all the intensity they can muster," Bull said.

ADF is a legal alliance of Christian attorneys and like-minded organizations defending the right of people to freely live out their faith. Launched in 1994, ADF employs a unique combination of strategy, training, funding, and litigation to protect and preserve religious liberty, the sanctity of life, marriage, and the family.
