As world celebrates US female athletes in Paris, Biden-Harris admin's harmful Title IX rule takes effect

Thursday, Aug 1, 2024

The following quote may be attributed to Alliance Defending Freedom CEO, President, and General Counsel Kristen Waggoner regarding the Biden-Harris administration’s unlawful attempt to rewrite Title IX that goes into effect Thursday, illegitimately redefining “sex” in federal law, threatening women’s advancements in education and athletics and violating the rights of parents, students, and teachers:

“The Biden-Harris administration’s radical redefinition of sex turns back the clock on equal opportunity for women, threatens student safety and privacy, censors speech, and undermines fairness in women’s sports. While women are amazing the world with their Olympic achievements, this administration would undo that progress, ignoring biological reality, science, and common sense—all at the expense of women.

“The administration’s new regulation going into effect today will have devastating consequences on the future of student privacy, free speech in schools, and women’s sports. That’s why Alliance Defending Freedom took immediate action, filed five lawsuits, and won five injunctions that protect school districts, teachers, and students who will be gravely harmed by this unlawful government overreach. Our litigation efforts, combined with others’ efforts, protect 26 states and at least 1,118 schools across the country. And we will continue to work to protect the safety, privacy, and equal opportunities for women and girls.”

Since the Biden-Harris administration first announced its proposed rewrite of Title IX, ADF attorneys filed five different legal actions and successfully secured injunctions from five district courts halting the administration’s efforts:
