Friday, Nov 6, 2015
Attorney sound bite: Michael J. Norton
WHO: ADF Senior Counsel Michael J. Norton and ADF Legal Counsel Natalie L. Decker
WHAT: Testimony before the Republican Study Committee of Colorado regarding defunding Rocky Mountain Planned Parenthood
WHEN: Monday, Nov. 9, 2015 at 9 a.m. MDT
WHERE: Colorado State Capitol, Senate Committee Room 356, 200 E. Colfax Ave., Denver
DENVER – Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel Michael J. Norton and ADF Legal Counsel Natalie L. Decker will testify Monday before the Republican Study Committee of Colorado chaired by State Senator Kevin Lundberg. The ADF attorneys will address Planned Parenthood’s apparent sale of baby body parts for profit and its Colorado affiliate’s negligence in reporting the rape of a minor.
“American taxpayer money should go to fund local community health centers, not to subsidize a scandal-ridden, billion-dollar abortion business like Planned Parenthood that traffics in the hearts, lungs, heads, and livers of unborn babies,” said Norton, who is also a former U.S. Attorney. “This is especially true here in Colorado, where the voters adopted a state constitutional provision that expressly prohibits the direct or indirect funding of abortions.” (#DefundPP)
In July, the Center for Medical Progress released a video showing Rocky Mountain Planned Parenthood Vice President and Medical Director Savita Ginde apparently negotiating the sale of aborted baby parts as a technician picks through them in a Petri dish. Also in July, a recently settled civil lawsuit revealed that two Rocky Mountain Planned Parenthood employees failed to comply with Colorado law by not reporting the sexual abuse of a 13-year-old girl, performed an abortion on the girl without giving notice to her parents, and returned her to the custody of the sexual predator, who continued to sexually molest her.
In addition, ADF attorneys represent the former executive director of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment in a lawsuit against the affiliate regarding $14 million of taxpayer subsidies the abortion giant received despite a state constitutional amendment that prohibits the use of state taxpayer dollars to directly or indirectly fund abortions.
“No one’s hard-earned taxpayer dollars should go to organizations that care more about profit and taking advantage of minors than they do about the health and well-being of women,” added Decker. “America does not need Planned Parenthood. Only a small fraction of women in America use Planned Parenthood, and they are best served by the numerous community health clinics that care about women and don’t profit from abortions and baby parts.”
Barry Arrington, one of more than 2,600 private attorneys allied with ADF, will also testify about a lawsuit he recently filed against Colorado State University and others for trafficking the body parts of unborn babies.
