Gov. Ducey appoints Bill Montgomery to AZ Supreme Court

Thursday, Sep 5, 2019
The following quote may be attributed to Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Vice President of U.S. Legal Division and General Counsel, Arizona, Kristen Waggoner regarding Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey’s appointment Wednesday of Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery to the Arizona Supreme Court:

“ADF congratulates Bill Montgomery, who will be the newest member of Arizona’s high court and a worthy successor to Justice Scott Bales. Gov. Ducey said he chose Mr. Montgomery because he ‘was looking for a candidate who had an understanding of the law, a well-developed judicial philosophy, appreciation for the separation of powers, and a dedication to public service.’ We heartily agree that these are among the most desirable qualities in a high court justice and that Mr. Montgomery fits the bill. He is well known as a competent and experienced attorney, treats everyone with civility and respect, and has demonstrated his commitment to the rule of law and both the federal and state constitutions. That commitment includes standing for our most fundamental freedoms of free speech and religious liberty, and we trust that he will bring his focused, reasoned, and professional approach to those issues as they come before the court.”
