WASHINGTON – ADF International will join a policy briefing Tuesday on “The Global Crisis in Religious Freedom” with U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for Religious Freedom Sam Brownback. The briefing will address the question of how to counter the steady rise of religious persecution of Christians and other minorities around the world.

“No person or group should live in fear of being killed, tortured, or oppressed because of their religious beliefs. The rise of anti-conversion laws worldwide testifies to a growing crisis in religious freedom,” said Balakrishnan Baskaran, legal consultant to ADF International in India. During the briefing, Baskaran will address the situation of religious minorities in Asia and present the new ADF International white paper “Anti-Conversion Laws and the International Response.”

Kellie Fiedorek, legal counsel for Alliance Defending Freedom, will address the situation of religious freedom in the United States. The U.S.-partner of ADF International is currently litigating several precedent-setting cases at the U.S. Supreme Court, in which the rights to freedom of religion and belief are at stake.

The International Catholic Legislators Network and the Religious Freedom Institute are bringing together the international experts for the briefing, formally titled, “The Global Crisis in Religious Freedom: State of Play and Recommendations.” Media representatives who wish to attend the event should RSVP.
