DOJ to host religious liberty summit Monday

The U.S. Department of Justice’s Religious Liberty Summit will present a number of perspectives on the centrality of religious liberty to a flourishing society and will examine legal and cultural challenges to it. Acting Associate Attorney General Jesse Panuccio will host the event, which will feature an announcement on protecting religious freedom by Attorney General Jeff Sessions and remarks by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, U.S. Senator James Lankford, R-Okla., and Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee for Religious Liberty. Panel discussions will highlight legal and policy perspectives on the issue, as well as the lived experience of religious freedom in America today.

DOJ Media Affairs Specialist Kerri Kupec will moderate a panel on “The Promise and Challenge of Religious Liberty” featuring Alliance Defending Freedom client Jack Phillips, plaintiff in Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission; Derrick Max, executive director and principal of Cornerstone Schools of Washington, D.C.; Kelly Clemente of Bethany Christian Services; Rabbi Ruvi New of Chabad of East Boca Raton; and Dr. Harpreet Singh, MASSAH, Community Relations Service, DOJ.
