“Female athletes deserve fair competition. And competition is no longer fair when males are allowed to compete in girls’ sports,” said Holcomb. “That’s why the Fairness in Women’s Sports Act is not just good law, it’s necessary to protect athletic opportunities for young women across Idaho. Our clients, Madison Kenyon and Mary Kate Marshall, have already had the deflating experience of losing to a male runner; this should not be allowed to continue. As long-time athletes, these young women hope to be a voice for female athletes in this lawsuit and protect the integrity of women’s sports in Idaho.”
Last month, the U.S. Department of Justice filed a statement of interest in the case, Hecox v. Little, in support of the Idaho law.
