The following quote may be attributed to Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel and Vice President of Litigation Strategy Jonathan Scruggs regarding a peer-reviewed report the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services published this week concluding that procedures attempting to transition children—including puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgeries—create harms that are significant, long term, and too often ignored or inadequately tracked:

“Children experiencing gender dysphoria need love, support, and medical care rooted in biological truth—not life-altering drugs and surgeries. The Trump administration’s evidence-based report affirms the ‘growing international concern about pediatric medical transition.’ This reckless experimentation on our kids must stop. Thanks to the administration’s thorough review, we’re one step closer to protecting children from devastating, lifelong consequences. And with the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in United States v. Skrmetti, we look forward to seeing more state legislatures work to keep kids safe.”

Before submitting its report for peer review, HHS commissioned a comprehensive study of the scientific evidence and clinical practices surrounding the treatment of children and adolescents for gender dysphoria. The authors were drawn from disciplines and professional backgrounds spanning medicine, bioethics, psychology, and philosophy.
