ADF statement on President-Elect Donald Trump

Wednesday, Nov 6, 2024

The following quote may be attributed to Alliance Defending Freedom CEO, President, and General Counsel Kristen Waggoner regarding news that Donald Trump has been confirmed as president-elect of the United States:

Congratulations to President Trump on his election as our nation’s 47th president. Our prayers are with the president, his family, and his team.

Over the past four years, the Biden-Harris administration pursued policies that targeted our fundamental liberties: religious freedom, free speech, parental rights, the right to life, and equal opportunities for women and girls. Alliance Defending Freedom consistently rose to meet these challenges in courtrooms and legislatures across the country.

As President Trump prepares to reassume the office, we’re hopeful his administration will again work to defend our constitutional rights and advance an agenda for America that allows freedom and families to flourish.

First, the Trump administration should reject state censorship and protect free speech from all threats, foreign and domestic.

From pressuring social media companies to de-platform individuals to calling parents who oppose radical gender ideology in schools ‘domestic terrorists,’ the Biden-Harris administration continually embraced censorship as a valid means to punish and silence dissent.

The freedom to speak our minds is the most basic test of any free society. It allows us to debate ideas, seek truth, expose lies, and ultimately prevent tyranny. It’s a global imperative that the United States protect this God-given right. When free speech advances, truth advances with it—and the truth is what sets people free.

Second, the Trump administration should uproot dangerous gender ideology from our public policy, protecting women, children, and parental rights.

The Biden-Harris administration’s infusion of gender ideology into federal policy, such as Title IX, has fomented division and jeopardized many of our most basic rights. These actions have even punished women and girls for demanding basic safety, fairness, and privacy.

No political agenda can alter truth: We are indelibly created male and female. While denying this reality has caused immeasurable harm, embracing it is the surest path to achieving true equality and respect for all people.

Finally, President Trump should fortify the rule of law and dismantle the administrative state, including taking action to protect the integrity of our judiciary.

Far from defending democracy, the Biden-Harris administration continually undermined core principles of the Constitution like federalism and the separation of powers. It even entertained the radical notion of packing the Supreme Court.

Our Constitution has been durable for centuries for a reason: it is built on ideals that have safeguarded freedom for generations. We must work to protect it.

At ADF, we envision a world where all are free to speak and live the truth. We look forward to continuing our advocacy for every American’s fundamental rights in courtrooms, legislatures, and the public square as the new administration assumes office.

Alliance Defending Freedom is an alliance-building, non-profit legal organization committed to protecting religious freedom, free speech, parental rights, and the sanctity of life.
