ADF honors founding board member Tom Minnery

Monday, Dec 26, 2022

The following quote may be attributed to Alliance Defending Freedom Board Chairman Terry Schlossberg regarding the passing of Tom Minnery, a founding member of the ADF Board of Directors:

“The entire Alliance Defending Freedom family is in prayer for Deb and the rest of Tom’s family as we mourn his passing together. Tom spent a lifetime faithfully, tirelessly, selflessly, and effectively serving the Body of Christ. As a founding board member of ADF, he was an indispensable leader who helped grow the ministry from the seed of an idea, through some seasons of great uncertainty, into the world’s largest legal advocacy organization defending our God-given freedoms. And this is just one of Tom’s innumerable accomplishments. Countless people will attest to Tom’s impact, not only on our culture and society, but on their lives. His legacy is one of a humble, yet fearless, servant-leader. He reflected Christ in both his public and personal life. He was a true model of what it means to work unto the Lord. We will miss him deeply but will always be thankful for the world he left behind, because it is a world that was greatly enriched because of him.”

Minnery was president emeritus of Family Policy Alliance (formerly CitizenLink), a public policy affiliate of Focus on the Family, and former senior vice president of government and public policy for Focus on the Family. He was also board chairman of Center for Christian Virtue, the Ohio family policy council. A founding member of the ADF Board of Directors and former chairman of the board, Minnery was passionate about protecting the First Amendment rights of all Americans including the right to freely share the Gospel.

Minnery was a former senior editor of Christianity Today magazine and Capitol Hill correspondent for Gannett News Service. His service to other boards, non-profit organizations, and the local community includes Regent University School of Government Board of Visitors and local political campaigns. He was a church elder for many years and the recipient of several recognition awards from local civic and church groups.

Alliance Defending Freedom is an alliance-building, non-profit legal organization committed to protecting religious freedom, free speech, parental rights, and the sanctity of life.
