The following quote may be attributed to Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel Gregory S. Baylor regarding U.S. Department of Labor’s new directive and guidance that ensures religious liberty protections for faith-based organizations that partner with the federal government and implements aspects of President Donald Trump’s Executive Order 13798, “Promoting Free Speech and Religious Liberty”:
“Religious beliefs motivate many Americans to help their neighbors in need, and these individuals and organizations shouldn’t be forced to abandon their religious character or mission before partnering with the government. The Department of Labor’s new guidance affirms the value of religious liberty but goes one important step further to make these protections real and concrete. We commend Secretary Scalia for recognizing the immense value that religious organizations contribute to our communities and setting up a mechanism by which these groups may seek protection if they are unconstitutionally and unfairly targeted for their religious character—the very thing that motivates them to do the good work they do.”
