PHOENIX — Alliance Defense Fund Senior Legal Counsel Byron Babione will be available to answer questions from the media following a hearing in Ramirez-Oliva v. Ramirez Wednesday. The case involves Jesse Ramirez, a 36-year-old war veteran who was injured in a car accident May 30. ADF attorneys helped secure the restoration of food and water to the Gulf War veteran in June after filing a lawsuit on Ramirez’s behalf.
“Everyone deserves a chance to recover from an injury,” said Babione. “Food and water are not extreme measures, and no one should be deprived of such basic necessities. Jesse is making the most of his second chance. He is fully conscious, walking and talking, and very grateful to be alive.”
After less than two weeks in an intensive care unit following the car accident, Ramirez’s food, water, and antibiotics were withheld for five days. His food and water were restored shortly after ADF attorneys filed the lawsuit, and a court appointed a public fiduciary to serve as Ramirez’s guardian.
At the hearing Wednesday, the court will get an update on Ramirez’s condition and will review the status of his guardianship.
