AZ Legislature passes bill to protect children's privacy, safety

Thursday, Apr 18, 2024

The following quote may be attributed to Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel Matt Sharp, director of the ADF Center for Public Policy, regarding the Arizona Legislature’s passage Wednesday of the Arizona Accommodations for All Children Act, a bill that protects children at public schools by ensuring they have access to shower facilities based on their sex:

“Schools have a duty to protect the privacy, safety, and dignity of all students. Yet certain advocacy organizations are ignoring this duty and pressuring schools to tear down the long-standing tradition of having distinct facilities for boys and girls at school. It is of utmost importance that schools reject this radical social experiment, which impacts the most vulnerable members of our society, is not required by any federal law, and lacks common sense. Letting boys into girls’ showers is an invasion of privacy and a threat to student safety. We commend Sen. John Kavanagh and the Arizona Legislature for passing this critical bill to combat this harmful ideology. Protecting students from inappropriate exposure to members of the opposite sex is not only legal, it’s an important duty of the officials who watch over our children.”
